Sharing Dharma in Bihar, India

Sharing Dharma is one of the most noble cause for the followers of Buddha. One Bodhi Tree invites all members and well wishers to take part in this project.

Bihar is a state in India and holds a very important place in Buddhism as Bodh Gaya, the place where Buddha attained Enlightenment, is a district in Bihar.  Bodh Gaya is home the famous Bodhi Tree under which Buddha meditated. Bihar is also the birth place of Atisa, the monk and scholar from the great Nalanda University who revived Buddhism in Tibet.  It is also an irony there are very few Buddhists left in Bihar.

One Bodhi Tree is changing that.  There are over 150,000 refugees from Burma living in Bihar. These people were practicing Buddhism in Burma. They had to leave Burma because of adverse political situation. Now they are in Bihar and they have no place to assemble and pray. One Bodhi Tree has taken a pledge to build a Buddhist monastery in Katihar for the 150,000 people of Burma.

One Bodhi Tree organized a meditation and prayer camp in the month of July. The prayers where led by Geshe Thupten Phelgye and Bhante Budhprakash.   Geshe Thupten Phelgye is a Member of Parliament of Tibetan Government in Excile. Bhante Budhprakash is a doctor and Theravadan monk who is devoted his life to working for the people of Bihar.
