Study Program: Ultimate Truth and Relative Truth

 

At One Bodhi Tree, we are currently studying the heart matter of Buddhism: Ultimate Truth and Relative Truth.  According to the Buddha, we suffer because we crave. We crave because we fail to see the ultimate truth behind the worldly phenomena and remain lost in the relative truth.

Mahayana scholars, from Acharya Nagarjuna to Acharya Aaatisha,  devoted over 10 centuries in refining the understanding of Ultimate Truth and Relative Truth. Their work survived and has reached us thanks to Buddhist monastaries in Tibet. The Buddhist scholars in Tibet systematized the work of Nalanda scholars in a manner that is suitable for classroom study. Some of the debates on a single topic has happened over a course of 200 years.

Following is the sequence of study.
 
  • Vaibhashika (The School of Great Exposition)
  • Sutratinka  (The School of Sutra Followers)
  • Chittamatra (The School of Mind Only)

Heart Sutra Pilgrimage 2011

January 8, 2011 - January 23,2011

HHDLWe invite you to make the ultimate Buddhist pilgrimage of your life. Several governmental and non-governmental organizations have come together to make this pilgrimage possible.

The central theme of this pilgrimage is a celebration of the Heart Sutra. We will be chanting the Heart Sutra at Vultures Peak, where this precious text was delivered.

Starting at Sarnath, the place where Lord Buddha gave to his close friends his very first teaching, we will have the wonderful opportunity of studying with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.  The pilgrimage will then follow in the footsteps of the Buddha from Sarnath to Kashingar, Rajgir, Nalanda, and Bodhgaya.

Heart Sutra in Sanskrit

Sanskrit is the language of Mahayana Buddhism. Join our Sanskrit Program to learn the Sanskriit Alphabets, Sanskrit Grammar, and pronunciation with native Sanskrit speakers.

The goal of the program is to teach the entire text of Heart Sutra in Sanskrit in Devnagari.
